Vernon Burns Obituary

A Life To Be Remembered

Affectionate, wise, generous, caring, intelligent and compassionate are all the characteristics of our beloved Vernon F. Burns Jr. born in El Campo, TX-Wharton County, on August 29, 1951 to Adelaide Jewel Burns and Vernon Burns, Sr.  Vernon was reared to love the Lord and serve him all the days of his life. Therefore, he established his relationship with Christ at a youthful age and was baptized.

Sonny, as he was lovingly called by his family and dear friends, matriculated, through the La Marque Independent School District and graduated La Marque High School class of 1970. After high school, he attended Prairie View, A&M University and later worked for NASA /JSC as an electronic computer programmer. Later on, he secured a position with Todd Shipyard in Galveston, TX and then JMTC Construction in La Marque, TX.

Sonny enjoyed spending time with family and friends, as well as helping out whenever needed. He had a passion for dancing in which he gained the nickname, “Bo-Bo” short for “Bone Shaker”. He was very outgoing and frequently kept a smile on his face, never once meeting a stranger. He never complained when walking long distances to get to his destinations, no matter how long or far.  He greatly enjoyed dancing. He was the life of the party.   Sonny had true, real love and didn't mind showing nor giving it to everyone he came in contact with.

Sonny was preceded in death by his loving and devoted mother; his caring and exemplary father; his precious daughter, Brandy; his brother, Carl Burns, devoted nephew, Harold Fort, III; as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sonny leaves behind to cherish his precious memories and loving smile, two loving daughters, Lakisha Burns of Humble, Texas, and Kimberly Burns of Dickinson, TX and one son, Vernon, Burns, III of McKinney, TX; 5 grandchildren, Alexis Douglas of La Marque, Treysean Thompson of Dickinson, TX, Jaylon Cummins of Rosharon, TX, K’Shon Mack and Prynce Mack of Dickinson, TX;  4 great-grandchildren, Blake, Kylar, Adonis and Ne’Miya; two sisters, La Wanna Goodwin of Houston, TX and Marilyn Johnson (David) of La Marque, TX; one loving niece, Natalie Valentine of Houston, TX; one nephew, Jarid Johnson of La Marque, a host of cousins, relatives and many friends.
