Schineatha Lynn (Griffin) Rodriguez Obituary

Schineatha Lynn Rodriguez was born on July 29, 1957, to James (Buster) Edward Griffin Sr. and Lee Ruth (LaRue) Henry Griffin in LaMarque, Texas. Growing up in West Texas City, she accepted the Lord at an early age under the stewardship of Galilee United Methodist Church. Before her passing, she was a member of Sagemont Baptist Church. She is a proud graduate of LaMarque High School Class of 1975, College of the Mainland, and Texas Southern University.

She retired from Dow Chemical (formally Union Carbide) in 2009 after 30 years. With support and encouragement from her family, she decided to return to school and finish her bachelor’s degree which was put on hold by her choice. In 2013, she graduated with her bachelor’s degree in Maritime Transportation Management and Security from Texas Southern University. During the two years eight months battle with cancer Schineatha became known on the MDA campus as an avid supporter of her alma mater Texas Southern University.

Throughout her years Schineatha demonstrated the best in humanity, always bringing a smile, a care, an idea, and a betterment to others. She became known in the Elderly community of West Texas City and wherever else she had influence, bringing a cake and or a rotisserie chicken as an expression we are with you. She had a constant ministry of caring for those in need. An avid democrat and community activist as many in her family; serving as a voting volunteer, substitute teaching, and leading healthy living initiatives. Over the recent years and even during the battle with brain cancer Schineatha remained an avid supporter and participant in the ancestral roots research of both sides of the family.

On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Schineatha quietly slipped into the arms of Jesus peacefully surrounded by family and joined the great cloud of our ancestral witnesses. She was a devout born again believer, wife, mother, sister, aunt, niece and friend. She is preceded in death by both of her parents, Lee Ruth and James Griffin Sr., two older sisters Carolyn Faye Griffin Clark and Daisy Griffin and beloved son, Anthony James Rodriguez, II, “The Silent Witness”.

Schineatha was a true example of light and love. She lived life to the fullest spreading joy and Christ’s good news with everyone she encountered. A cherished mother, devoted wife, and faithful servant of God, Schineatha lived a life that embodied the principles of Proverbs 31. She was a beacon of strength, wisdom, and kindness, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her family and community. Her unwavering love for her husband and children, combined with her tireless commitment to living a life of grace and integrity, left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Schineatha's legacy of faith, compassion, and joy will forever inspire and shine.

She leaves to cherish in her memory her husband and lifelong companion of 40 years ‘Tony’, two daughters – Sophia Goodner – Rodriguez (Decreasha) and Samantha Rodriguez (Dayo), granddaughter – Avery, 4 brothers and sisters – Deberal Griffin Haynes, James Griffin Jr., Velma Inez Griffin, and James Butler (Olivia); 5 brothers and sisters in-love – Dr. Althea Allison, Grafton Rodriguez, Carol Coulthurst, Ida Benjamin and Kent Rodriguez and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
