I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day – and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Paul James Mayfield, Sr. was born on April 25th, 1947 In Sugarland, Texas to David Mayfield, Sr., and Emma Mae Wilson the 2nd son of 5 boys. Paul James Mayfield, Sr. accepted Jesus Christ in his life. Paul James attended EE Worthing High School in Sunnyside, where he played on the football team. After high school, Paul James joined the United States Navy and was assigned to the USS Oklahoma City Station in San Francisco, California. Paul James loved being on the water and as a radio operator working in communications. After the Navy, Paul James went to work for The Grocery Supply Company as a driver and forklift operator.  He also worked for Discount Tire Company as a manager. He joined Target in 1983 and retired after 25 years in 2008.

He loved loved loved, fishing, playing the slots, scratch-offs, watching movies, the Houston Texans and Houston Astros.  His favorite car was a 1969 Red Roadrunner.

On Monday, May 27th, 2024 at 6 o'clock, AM Jesus Christ called Paul James Mayfield, Sr. home.

Paul James Mayfield, Sr. was preceded in death by his father, David Mayfield, Sr.; his loving mother, Emma Mae Stephen; brothers, David, Jr., Ronald, Joe, Michael, Jesse Ray Mayfield and Jerry Simpson; sisters, Joyce Ervin and Robbie Hampton.

Survivors include his loving wife, of 52 years, Mary Mayfield of Houston, Texas, “Daddy's girl”, daughter, Marcia Renee Mayfield-Phillips (Melvin) of La Marque, TX; 3 loyal sons, Mark Fisher, Sr. (Nina) of Houston, TX, Troy Anthony Mayfield, Sr.(Jennifer) of Houston, TX, Paul James Mayfield, III (Shantel) of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren, Aysiah, Chloe, Zoey, Jasmon, Jaimie, Mark, Jr., Maurice (Tariah), Mekhi, Jonathan (Ashley), Colton (Ashley), Troy, Jr., and Simeon; great-grandkids, Maliq, Blake, Ma`Leiah, Ma`Kaela, Zachariah, Zamar, Jonathan and Ashton. A special person, Sandra Gail Duhon, mother of Marcia Renee Mayfield-Phillips and Paul James Mayfield III, and a host of other relatives and friends.

 

Every Man’s life ends the same way. It’s only the details of how he lived that distinguish one man from another.   Paul James lived a noble life of purpose.
