Myrtle Giles Davis Obituary
Who can find a virtuous wife? Her worth is far above rubies. Psalm 31:10
Mrs. Myrtle Lorraine Giles Davis was born August 23, 1932 to Rev. T. H. Giles and Mrs. Lela Kimble Giles in El Campo, TX. She was he proud wife of Paul G. Davis and the mother of Debra Y. Davis. Mrs. Davis is retired from TCISD where she taught for more than as 40 plus years as a Home Economics Educator and President of the Teachers Credit Union. Her first teaching assignment was Booker T. Washington, where Professor Calvin Vincent was her Principal.
The love of education and the freedom to educate was her passion and she walked in her calling until the absolute last breath; she was instructing someone about something she felt like they needed to know. During her tenure as an educator, she played many roles and it was as if she was designed for the part because she portrayed it with the style and grace of a Royal. Everything she had in her head, she tried to share it with someone with the intention that it would help them further down the line. She would utilize a scrap of paper or a piece fabric like a canvas and the finish would be spectacular in the eyes of the beholder. Every student, male or female, was held captive and was captivated at Mrs. Davis and her ability to create “Something out of Nothing.”
Mrs. Davis was adamant about all students being successful and during the transition of the Public Schools integrating she and many other educators for Booker T. Washington were strategically placed by Professor Calvin Vincent to ensure the move was professionally accessed and monitored at all time by the educators that were familiar to the student and parents. Always and encourager and sometime an enforcer but always a finisher. She was excellent and demanded the same from every student, no more and no less.
Her education began in Grove Hill, Texas and continued at Booker T. Washington when her family moved to Texas City in 1946. She graduated from Central High School in Galveston in 1949 where upon she entered Prairie View A&M University. She received her BS in Home Economics and MS in Education degrees from PV.
Mrs. Davis finished well: Member of the Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church, former member Greater St Matthews Baptist Church, member under Watch care of Unity of Houston Church, Retired Educator of TCISD, winner of many awards and honors including TCISD Teacher of the Year and Home Economics Teacher of the Year for the State of Texas, members (Paul and Myrtle) of the Golden Team for Texas City La Marque Chamber of Commerce, recipient inducted into the TCISD Foundation Hall Wall of Fame Honor for the2013; Booker T. Washington EX’es, and many civic and community minded organizations.
Paul and Myrtle Davis were always and item, his tie matched her dress or she made him one with a matching pocket swatch. Hats always to fit any occasion and she must have an extravagant corsage because no decent woman would be caught dead without it for a dressy occasion. She loved her family and furnished the best care possible, including getting in your business and writing a hundred notes, mailing some of them but you got the message along with a gift bag.
Debra was her heart and she rearranged her and Mr. Paul’s life when Debra became ill. She called, inquired, prayed are and requested prayer and they were answered. All in God’s time and according to His plan.
Mrs. Myrtle Lorraine Giles Davis closed her sewing box after she had distributed all the tools and knowledge that was stored, therein, on Saturday December 14, 2024 during the early morning hours in the presence of God and those selected to accompany her on that journey. “Well done, my good and faithful servant…” She is preceded in death by her Maternal and Paternal Grandparents; her Parents; Siblings, Gracie Jamerison, Leon Giles Sr. and Lee Andrew (Sarah) Giles; Friend BFF, Rev.
