Morris P. Jenkins was born on May 24, 1937, in Seabrook, Texas, to the late Felix and Savannah Barnes Jenkins.
He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1955, where he was an active student-athlete, playing both football and basketball. He later attended Prairie View A&M University, where he pursued studies in Engineering.
At an early age, Morris accepted Christ and was baptized at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Dickinson, Texas. He remained a faithful servant of God throughout his life. He served as a dedicated Deacon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church for 38 years. During his time there, he faithfully worked in several ministries, including serving as Director of Brotherhood, a member of the Finance Committee, a Sunday School Teacher for the Men’s class, the Scholarship Committee, and the Men’s Choir. Later, he continued his spiritual journey at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church in Hitchcock, Texas, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. William Randall Jr.
Morris was a member of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Texas. He was raised as a Master Mason in Pride of Texas City Masonic Lodge #193 in Texas City. He served diligently in the Lodge holding several offices. Later, the Lodge merged with LaMarque Masonic Lodge #373 where he continued his Masonic affiliation which spanned over 50 years. His gentle spirit and noble character embody the qualities of a true Master Mason. He was a former member of Winn Consistory #234 - 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons and a Noble of El Katif Temple #85 of the Mystic Shrine.
Morris had a long and distinguished career in the chemical industry. He worked at Southwest Chemical Company and Hercules Chemical Plant before retiring from LyondellBasell after a total of 46 years of service. As a respected supervisor, he trained many process operators and was affectionately known as “Doc” among his colleagues.
Morris was united in marriage to Dr. Annette M. Jenkins for 46 years. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and the proud patriarch of the Jenkins family. His presence, wisdom, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Savannah Jenkins; his brothers, Chester Jenkins, J.D. Jenkins, Goree Jenkins, R.D. Jenkins, Merland Jenkins, Otis Jenkins, and Leslie Jenkins; his sisters, Gertrude Rollins, Annie Mae Jenkins, and Bobby J. Barnett; his daughter, Sherlyn Alridge; and his grandchildren, Sharis Alridge, Ashley Jones, and Sharae Jones.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Dr. Annette Jenkins; his children, Michael Jenkins, Calvin Parks (Mandy), A. David Jones, Christina “Yvette” Caesar, Dorthea Jones Pointer (Joseph), and Pamela Mitchell (John); his grandchildren, Chase Parker, Avary Parks, Daryl Jones, Delece Jones, and Charles Alridge; sister, Irene Godfrey; sisters-in-law, Jean Jenkins, Elsie Harris, Shirley Preston, Dennice Watkins (Reverend Ermus), and Monica Tolden; brother-in-law, Dr. William Randall, Jr., (Regenia); Goddaughter, Chantea Palmer (Reverend Phillip); dedicated nurse, Errin Watkins; and devoted niece, Denesha Saldana; 4 great grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; best friends, Walter Jackson and Wilbert Holmes; generations of nieces, nephews, and cousins; along with a host of extended family members, church family, and dear friends.
