Melvin Crawford, Sr. Obituary

On October 12, 1953, a handsome baby boy was born to the union of Coy, Sr. and Homerselle Bell Crawford.

Melvin Crawford Sr., affectionately called “Sleepy,” was loved by all who knew him. He was reared in a very close-knit Christian home with lots of uncles, aunts, and cousins surrounding him. Sleepy accepted Christ at an early age and was a descendant of the Bell, Britton, Hobgood, and Caldwell early settlers to the city of Texas City by maternal grandparents, Norvell, Jr. and Effie (Caldwell) Bell.

Melvin, Sr. was educated in La Marque public schools and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. United in marriage to Elnora Roy, to this union, a son, Melvin Jr, and daughter, Kimberly were born, along with a bonus stepson, Brian.

Sleepy transitioned from this life on February 8, 2024. Although our loss is Heaven’s gain, Sleepy is welcomed by those who have preceded him in death, including his wife, Elnora Crawford; parents, grand-parents; sisters, Theresa Francis, Kathy Porter, and Carolyn "Sue" Mack; brothers, Velton Tatum, Coy Crawford, Sr., and Randy Crawford.

Sleepy was a kindhearted man who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Kimberly Crawford; sons, Melvin Crawford, Jr. (Dedra), and Brian Roy; grand-children, Brylon Crawford, Bryce Crawford, Trinity Dabney, Landon Dabney, Clayton Dabney; sisters, Shirley Reason, Gilda Todd, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other extended family and friends.
