On May 26, 1969, in Aransas Pass, Texas, a beautiful tiny 3lb baby girl was born to Sandra Britton and Gregory Simmons, they named her Leslie Kay Simmons.
Leslie was raised in the Texas City/Lamarque, Texas community and attended the Lamarque School District, graduating from Lamarque High School class of 1987. She continued her education obtaining her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Galveston College, while graduating at the top of her class. She worked at UTMB before moving on to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston Texas Medical Center. Leslie continued to advance her Nursing career acquiring her Bachelor’s Degree from Oklahoma Wesleyan University and her Master’s Degree from Grand Canyon University. She continued her career at Houston Methodist Hospital. In 2025 Leslie was recognized as the Top Clinic Registered Nurse. She was featured in the America’s Top Nurses article which highlighted her leading with compassionate care at Houston Methodist Primary Care Group. Leslie was committed to increasing her spiritual knowledge. She earned her Certificate of Ordination in 2016. Lelsie became a Board-Certified Christian Counselor. She was a faithful and dedicated member of Word Power Life Center where she served in many capacities. She pushed forward and graduated from Word Power Bible College in 2022, where she later became a professor. One of Leslie’s many passions were teaching others in church and at work, where she contributed to the safety of patients assisting in implementing fall safety protection signs.
Leslie’s role as a mother, however, was her most cherished accomplishment. She was devoted to her son Eric Roshawn Collins and her daughter Chante’a Yvette Collins. She devoted her life to caring for her children and nurturing them through every stage of life. She used that same nurturing spirit with her patients and with the teachings of God’s word.
Leslie is preceded in death by her grandparents Lorraine and Artie Dawson, Margaret Maxey and Joe Simmons; aunts, Gwendolyn White, Tammy Maxey; uncle, Gary Laws, and sister, LaTanya “Toni” Blevins.
Leslie leaves to cherish her memories her children; Eric Roshawn Collins (Klarice), Chante’a Yvette Collins(Taras), grandchildren; Kaliegh Michelle Collins, Logan Roshawn Collins, and Charleigh Aaliyah Winston, parents; Sandra Kay Britton and Gregory Allen Simmons; bonus mom, Marci Simmons, siblings; Dennis Benson, Craig Stepney, and Chartis Simmons, Leslie Hudson. Nephew Kevin White (Bayli), nieces, Johnea Ashley Wroten (Antwon) and their children Raelynn Toni Wroten; aunts; Betty Hopkins, Jane Laws, Tanya Israel, uncles; Willie Laws, Jr., Kevin Simmons (Symantha), Tracey Simmons (Debbie), Eric Maxey. A host of extended family, numerous friends, coworkers, and her WP Life Center family.
