Johnnie Mae Clay was born on September 13, 1961, to the union of Claudine and Wesley James Monroe.
Johnnie Mae grew up and attended school in Dickinson, Texas with her parents and 3 siblings. As a young woman, Johnnie Mae married and spent the rest her life with her devoted husband of over 40 years; Theodore Clay Sr. From this union came 2 children; Theodore Clay Jr. and Jessica Renee Clay. This 4-piece formed a tight bond that became inseparable. Johnnie Mae worked in the school system, housekeeping and home health care throughout her lifetime until retiring with her husband to take care of their horses and grandchildren. She was a member of New Vision Church under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Clint Yancy.
Johnnie Mae or “Sugar Mama”; as she was better and affectionately known as by friends, family and loved ones, loved her husband, her 2 children, and her 3 granddaughters. She enjoyed listening to the Blues or Zydeco, scratching tickets, watching her grandchildren, spending time with her daughter, and going to the casino and horse races with her husband. To know Sugar Mama is to experience a presence and light you have never seen. Sugar Mama was a protector, advocate, and all around “Ride or Die” for her husband, her kids, and anyone she held near. To have her on your side was a blessing.
Johnnie Mae is preceded in death by her Mother and Father; Claudine and Wesley James Monroe, her sister; Anna Maria Monroe, her Aunt and namesake; Johnnie Mae Nunn, and her Uncle; Robert Lee “Uncle Brother”; Ray.
Johnnie Mae leaves to honor and cherish her memories her adoring husband; Theodore Clay Sr., Her son, Theodore Clay Jr., Her daughter; Jessica Renee Clay, and her 3 granddaughters; Cianna LaRae Clay, Ahmora Rayne Clay, and De’Leyah Mae Clay. Johnnie Mae also leaves her Brother; Wallace Ray Sr. and 2 Sisters, God Brother; Roy Robinson and God sister, 2 God daughters; Ja’Veon Thomas and Samone Williams 4 nephews, 4 nieces and many caring friends and loved ones
