John David Shannon, Jr., born on February 28, 1936, to the late John D. Shannon, Sr. and Hortense Hobgood Shannon, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2025, at HCA Houston Healthcare Mainland.

     John was educated in the Lincoln School System, where he developed the foundation for a life of integrity and hard work. At the age of 19, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he began a successful career in the hospitality industry. As a Concierge in several of the city’s most prominent hotels, John was known for his professionalism, warmth, and dedication to service.

     Later in life, he returned to Texas City, Texas, where he continued his commitment to community and labor through his work with the Local Labor Union, from which he eventually retired.

     John continued to follow the path of the Lord as a faithful member of the Westward Street Church of Christ, where his spiritual life remained a guiding force.

     He was preceded in death by his loving and devoted parents, Hortense Shannon Gilbert and John D. Shannon, Sr.; his wife, Ruby Shannon;  his daughter, Lemie Shannon; and his sister, Dianne Robinson.

     He is survived by his loving sisters, Dorothy Shannon and Betty Shannon Rhone Taylor. John also shared a deep and enduring partnership with Brenda Martin, a bond that brought him joy and companionship until his passing. He leaves behind a close-knit family of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will cherish his memory and the legacy of love and strength he leaves behind.

     John David Shannon, Jr. will be remembered for his quiet strength, his unwavering work ethic, his faith, and the kindness he extended to all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those he touched.
