Herbert “Herbie” Charles, Jr. was born on September 30, 1976, to the late Herbert Charles, Sr., and Peaches Charles of La Marque, Texas.  Herbert attended the La Marque ISD and graduated in 1996.  He was baptized at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Zephaniah Phillips of Greater Bell Zion Baptist Church.  In his early years at Bell Zion, he was a member of the Shepherd Boys, Youth Choir, and a member of Esther Palace #166 under the leadership of Sis. Irvin.  During High School, Herbert played tennis and ran track.  

     After High School graduation, Herbie worked at the Knights of Columbus in La Marque, Texas under the supervision of Mrs. Angus Biagas and enjoyed the collaborating with others at work.  Herbie attended College of the Mainland and received his certificate in the Welding Program.

     Herbert was dedicated to his family and exemplified his love by taking care of his father during his Senior year at High School.   Family was important to him, and he enjoyed family events.  He was outgoing and known for being the “Home Security” for his family.  His nephews and nieces were the joy of his life.  He often displayed his talent of cooking and BBQing on Facebook and in the family kitchen.  He was that cousin that stayed in touch and the keeper of the family photos.  Herbie loved the Houston Texans, and you could hear him supporting them on any game day. 

     On Sunday, January 28, 2025, Herbert was called to his heavenly home to be with the Lord.   He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Charles, Sr. and Peaches Charles; his sisters, Beatrice Charles Davis and Angela Charles; his grandparents, numerous uncles, aunts and cousins.

     He leaves to cherish his fond memories, Devoted and Caring Sister, Bridget Charles Ford Williams; Five Nephews, Robert Smith, Jr., Raymond Smith, Joshua Smith, Zebedee Peters, Gerald Ford; One Niece, Brittany Ford; Four Great-Nephews, Braden, Lil Gerald, Lil Zebedee and Bentley; Two Great-Nieces, Sa’riah Smith and E’mani Smith; Two Aunts, Gertie Mae Griffith and Eretta Blessett; Three Uncles, Uylese Griffith, C.J. Charles, Horace Griffith; Bonus friends, Tracey Womack, Rosalyn Jenkins and Mahalia Earls and a host of loving cousins and friends.
