Gerronda Rich Obituary

Gerronda Tonsha Rich, 38, of Dickinson, Texas, left this world far too soon on August 10, 2025, but her laughter, love, and light will forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Born on July 27, 1987, in Galveston, Texas, to Tanya Brown and Gerald Rich, Gerronda was a joyful soul from the very beginning. She grew up in Dickinson, where she attended Dickinson High School and graduated in 2005. She was baptized at Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Dickinson, Texas, where her faith remained a steady part of her life.

Gerronda had a smile that could light up a room, a laugh that was contagious, and a spirit that brought people together. She was especially close to her mother, Tanya—they were best friends as much as they were mother and daughter, sharing countless talks, jokes, and bursts of laughter.

She worked for many years caring for children, most recently at Children’s Learning Adventure Childcare Center in League City. Before that, she spent time working at Gator Academy, Excellence Childcare and Kroger where she built lasting friendships. Her work with children was not just a job—it was a calling. She had a special heart for children with autism and was a strong advocate and supporter for their needs.

But Gerronda’ s proudest role was being “Mom.” She was a fiercely devoted and exceptional mother to her two beautiful daughters: Essence Taylor and Ra’Niyah Collins. Her girls were her world and she didn’t play around when it came to protecting, guiding, and loving them. Everything she did—every laugh, every lesson, every sacrifice—was for them.

Music was her escape, her “happy place,” and she could never resist the pull of a good beat. Whether singing along or dancing with joy, Gerronda expressed herself fully through music and movement. Those who knew her best will always remember her dancing like no one was watching. Gerronda loved people, having a good time and eating good food. She never missed a chance to enjoy a good meal and loved sharing food with family and friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Essence and Ra’Niyah; her mother, Tanya Brown Green; her father, Gerald Rich; her step-father, Anthony Green; her step-mother, Jocelyn Tate; her grandmother Helen Rich, her grandfather Paul Taylor, her godmother, Yvette Bimage; her aunts; Stacy Brown, Cathy(Mike) Barb, Gladys Sonnier and uncle Mark Brown; her beloved cousins; Tamisha Brown, Keith Brown, Kedra Sonnier, Breon Brown, Mike Barb Jr., Chassidy(Peppa) Ashford and Skylar Collins; her dear friends; Zenobia Collins and Janese Campbell; her very special cousins; Kimberly Freeman and Evette Williams, and a host of other cousins, extended family, and friends.

She is preceded in death by her grandmother, Erma Jean Brown Owens; her grandfather, Marcellus “Blue” Brown; her uncle Treen Green, her special cousins, Jalisa Rich and Daylan Walker; and her special friends, Bobby Jones and Marquis Allen, Jr.

Gerronda’s life was a beautiful blend of love, laughter, and loyalty. She gave of herself freely, loved deeply, and brought joy to every space she entered. Her story is one of devotion—to her faith, her family, her friends, and especially to her daughters. While her time here was far too short, the impact she made will last forever.
