George Hearne, Jr. Obituary
George Hearne Jr., a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend whose steadfast spirit and unwavering love for his family will forever be remembered. He embodied a noble man of good character.
George was born on August 28, 1938, in Wharton, Texas, to the late George Hearne Sr. and Alberta Hearne. From his earliest days, his life was rooted in family. At a youthful age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at Mt. Rose Baptist Church. He was baptized in the river, a moment that would anchor his life in devotion unto our Lord.
In his youth, George’s family relocated to La Marque, Texas, where he completed his education and graduated from Lincoln High School. Soon after, he answered the call to serve his country, enlisting in the United States Army. With courage and honor, he fulfilled his duty, earning an honorable discharge before returning home to begin the next chapter of his life.
George’s work ethic was unmatched. He spent many years at Sears Automotive and Firestone, skillfully repairing heavy equipment, and later pursued his passion for cooking by owning and operating a Soul Food Restaurant in Austin, Texas. In his eyes, no one could outcook him, and those blessed to taste his meals would agree. Whether in the kitchen, at the grill, or gathered around the table, George poured love into every dish he made.
A proud Dallas Cowboys fan, George also found joy in fishing, crabbing, and friendly games of cards and dominoes. Yet, above all, his greatest joy was his family.
On August 1, 1959, he married Louvenia Hearne Williams, and of this union, they were blessed with 2 children, Felix Hearne and Valerie Joann Hearne.
On January 1, 1969, he married the love of his life, Gertrude Houston, embracing her six children as his own. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and commitment, lasting until the Lord called Gertrude home. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, faith, and unconditional love.
George’s life was a living example of faith, perseverance, and devotion. He worked hard, loved deeply, and stood firmly for his family. His hands built, his heart nurtured, and his presence brought comfort. Though he has gone to be with the Lord, his spirit will live on in the stories told and the love that binds his family together.
On the morning of Sunday, August 24, 2025, George Hearne, Jr., transitioned from his early life to receive his eternal life's reward. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gertrude Hearne; his parents, George Hearne, Sr., and Alberta Hearne Nelson; his brothers, Raymond Hearne, Alvin Callis, David Nelson, Ezell Hearne, and Charles Hearne; his son-in-law, George Luckett; and his grandson, Marlon Luckett.
