A Life Full of Music and Joy
Frank “Frankie Jay” Cohen Sr. was a man whose vibrant personality and love of music touched everyone he met. Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on May 3, 1958 to Chester and Loretta Cohen, where he began his childhood before the family relocated to Galveston County in his early adolescents. Frank spent his young adult years strumming the bass and singing in a cover band, bringing energy and smiles wherever he went. His infectious personality earned him the nickname “Frankie Jay,” a reflection of the joy he carried and shared.
He was a kind soul who loved to connect with others through music, laughter, and good times. Frank’s presence had a way of lighting up the room, and his genuine heart made him a friend to many.
Reunited in Peace
Frank is now at peace with his parents, Loretta and Chester Cohen, as well as his brothers Sherman, Furman, Chester, Lester, and brother-in-law Daniel Burleson. He’s also reunited with loved ones who preceded him, including Eleal Franklin, Albert "Big Red" Barns III, Mykeba Cohen- Clark, Michael Hill Jr. and Furman Wesley Cohen Jr. Their memories remain a treasured part of his story.
Survived by Those Who Loved Him
Frank leaves behind his four children from his marriage to Lisa George, who was his partner for 11 years: Chauncy George Sr. (Marcee); Chauncia George; Frank Cohen Jr. (Whittney); and Chad Cohen. He is also survived by his siblings: Charlesetta Burleson, George Smith, Danny Cohen-Sennett, Illinois Cohen-Tezeno and Stephen Cohen; and his 14 grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews who carry a piece of him forward in their lives and stories.
Though he may no longer be here physically, his spirit lives on in all who knew him. His legacy is a reminder to cherish the connections we make and to celebrate in reverence to the precious time we have
The family thanks everyone for their kindness, support, and memories shared during this time. Frankie Jay’s spirit will always be a part of the stories told and the hearts he touched.
