Floyd Mayes Obituary

Mr. Floyd Ree Mayes was born to Nathaniel Mayes, Sr. and Sadie Brown Mayes on August 25, 1947.  He was loved by all and affectionately known as “Pretty Boy Floyd”.  He was educated in the Texas City Independent School District at Booker T. Washington School. He was raised in Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church and was baptized at the age of 9 years old on June 16, 1957, by Rev. James Henry Scott. Floyd kept his Certificate of Baptism in the original frame and was very adamant concerning his relationship with God and his fellow man as a reflection of LOVE.

Floyd worked and retired from Sterling Chemical as an Industrial PetroChemical Technician after over 30 years of service.  He was a vital part of the Family always available and willing to be at his best by ENTERTAINING COMPANY.  He loved sports and fishing when he was able.

Floyd was peaceful and steady. He met Katie Marie Anderson in 1964 and married her in 1965.  To this union, ABC&D (as he called them) were born Alfy, Beatrice, Cassius, and Demetrius. Together, they educated, raised, and loved their family in Texas City, TX.

The peace that surpasses all understanding, becked for Floyd and he willfully followed the path we all must trod from mortality to immortality. Peacefully he lived and peacefully he died both being in Christ. This bourn no traveler returns.  Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; his oldest brother Nathaniel Mayes, Jr ‘Sonny’; a sister, Catherine Guillory and many other relatives and friends.

Floyd leaves to continue his legacy, his loving, caring and devoted wife, Katie; his children, Alfy (Eufemia), Beatrice, Cassius (Deandrea), and Demetrius; he also, leaves 8 grandchildren that adored him Kristin, Courtney, Alfy Jr., Sydney, Daphbe, Caitlin, Demetrius Jr., and Cameron; three great grands Alfy111, Amora, and Aliah; sister, Beatrice Claborn; brothers, Curtis Mayes Sr., and Gary L. Mayes; too many nieces, nephews, and friends to name but if you ever met him you'll never forget him.
