Florence (Bell) Butler Obituary

Today, we gather to celebrate and honor the life and homegoing service of Florence Louise Butler (Peaches), a devoted wife and mother, and a true woman of God, whose heart was centered around family.

On January 6, 1950, a beautiful baby girl was born in Galveston, Texas, to Joseph and Albertha Bell, whom they affectionately name Florence Louise Bell (Peaches).

Florence was educated in the Galveston Public School District. She was baptized at the Live Oak Church in Galveston under the leadership of Reverend George W. Barron.

Florence attended and graduated from the Historic Central High School in 1968, which was the last class of Central High School. Throughout her tenure at Central, Florence participated in a host of extracurricular activities as a Bearcat, earning the Honor of Ms. Central and mascot to name a few.

Florence went on to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA, as her institution of choice for Higher learning. After her days at Southern, she returned to Galveston and married her Forever Love, Paul G. Butler Sr., Florence and Paul would later move to Texas City, where they reared their sons.

She would become employed by Guaranty Federal Savings Bank, where she served the Galveston County Region for more than a decade. When she ended her tenure at Guaranty Federal, she still had a strong dedication to her community, as she served as a Community Liaison for Mainland Youth at Risk. Florence then completed the Real Estate Program at the College of the Mainland, after which, she served as a realtor for Keller Williams Realty in Pearland, TX, until her health began to fail.

Florence served as a faithful member of Straightway Church in Texas City, TX, under the tutelage of Bishop John B. West, where she served as a Deaconess as well as a Finance Secretary.

Florence was called home to Glory on Friday, March 13, 2026, at her home after 76 years of service on this side and 56 years of Holy Matrimony.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Albertha Bell, and her son, Jermaine R. Butler, her sister, Betty Jo Dennis, her brother, Edward L. Bell, her mother-in-law, Odessa Butler, sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Ann Butler and Glenda Sue Butler, and brothers-in-law, John Butler Sr. and Alfred Butler Sr.

Florence leaves her loving memories with her devoted husband, Paul G. Butler Sr., her sons, Paul G. Butler Jr. of Kileen, Jolealron G. Butler, and Keenan S. (Nicole) Butler Sr., of Texas City, 22 grandchildren, brothers, Jerry Lee Allen (Joyce) of Houston, and Joseph H. Bell (Cynthia) of Georgia, and host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
