Eugene Dominick, Sr. Obituary

Eugene Dominick, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and distinguished pillar of the Galveston waterfront, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on November 22, 1931, Eugene lived a full and meaningful life defined by integrity, hard work, and profound devotion to his family and community.

In 1958, Eugene began his legendary career on the docks, joining International Longshoremen's Association (ILA) Local 1504 as a casual worker on the warehouse gang. Through exceptional work ethic and dedication, he quickly worked his way into operating container-handling cranes. By his retirement 33 years later, he had mastered every piece of container and material handling equipment on the port. Eugene spent decades sharing his mastery, training countless operators who came after him, and earning a place as a true hero to his ILA family. Last year, he was nationally recognized as the oldest living member of Local 1504 and honored as the eldest of all Galveston locals. Even the youngest union members warmly recognized and admired him whenever he visited the union hall.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Pearlie Jeters Dominick; his father, Joseph Dominick; his sisters, Mary Miles, Dorothy Dominique, and Justina Dominique; his brothers, Joseph Dominick, Edison Dominick, Uncle Dan and Valcour Dominick, Sr.

Eugene is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 16 years, Mary Dominick; his children, Geno Dominick, Jan Dominick, Brenda Davis, Herbert Hardy, Jr., Kenneth Johnson, and Timothy Johnson; a slew of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.
