Donald Ray "Nug" Prevost Obituary

Donald Ray Prevost was born on February 11, 1944 in Jennings, Louisiana to his parents the late Mrs. Verna Mae Barbin and Donald Ray Joseph. He was raised by his grandparents the late Clemon and Lorretta Prevost. He was known by the name "Nug" to many from an early age. Donald Ray attended grade school as a young boy and completed 10th grade at Jennings High School. He was a member of Straight Way Baptist Church of Texas City, TX under the pastorship of the late Pastor John B. West and he sang in the choir.

In 1965 Donald Ray moved to Texas City, TX where he joined Labor Local 116 Union and became a construction worker for 35 years. He joined the Seaman Local Hall and became a certified Seaman for 15 years where he was able to visit many ports and countries such as Africa, Germany, and Russia while working as the Chef's Helper. He moved to Oakland, California and worked for Todd Lumber Company for 3 years. He loved to fish, crab, hunt, gig, and crawfish, and they were his favorite hobbies. He was a great shooter and he collected many guns and rifles. Donald Ray loved zydeco music and he loved to dance and he spoke French. Donald Ray loved to dress to impress and he rocked his gold jewelry that he had specially made into necklaces, rings, and belt buckles. He was a natural gardener and kept his yard beautiful. He was very active and he worked side jobs to keep busy after his retirement.

In 1973, Donald Ray married the love of his life Mercie Dee Prevost for 36 years. Together they formed an unbreakable bond and a deep love. He was a man of great pride and dignity. A God fearing man. He was a great Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle and a friend to many. Donald Ray will be remembered for his big smiles, his sarcasm and his friendly jokes.

He lived a happy healthy life for the majority of his life.  He moved to live with his devoted daughter Donna Davis and family for 3 years throughout the end of his life while battling Alzheimer's disease.  Donna was more than just a devoted daughter; she was a tireless caregiver and a loving presence for our father. She made immense personal sacrifices, including putting her job and health on hold, to provide the best care possible. Donna promised that she would not leave him or place him in a nursing home, and she held steadfast to that promise despite the relentless challenges of Alzheimer's, Donna's commitment never wavered. Her unwavering dedication and strength in the face of such a difficult journey are a testament to her profound love and devotion. Her sacrifices and relentless care were a true act of love, and they will always be remembered with deep gratitude.  He was well taken care of and he left this earth happy and peaceful.

Donald Ray goes to his heavenly home to meet his parents Verna Mae Barbin and Donald Ray Joseph and grandparents Clemon and Lorretta Prevost. His sisters, Raynell Tryals (Harvey Tryals), Mary Louise McDaniel (Melvin McDaniel) and Janice Ford (Edward Ford).
