Clara Jean (Caldwell) Taylor Obituary
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” Proverbs 31:31
Clara Jean Caldwell Taylor, age 68, was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend who passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Texas City, TX, on November
13 th, 2024.
She was born in Nacogdoches, TX, on December 8, 1955, to Aline Caldwell Brewer and Kenneth Yarbrough. Clara had fond memories of spending her childhood with her grandmother, siblings, and first cousins in the Center Point community of Nacogdoches. She moved to Galveston, TX, to attend and graduate from Ball High School in 1974.
Following graduation, she married David Taylor and, from that union, had three children: twin sons, David Lee Taylor Jr. and Albert Lee Taylor, and a daughter, Felicia Ann Taylor. She had more love to give and took her children’s stepbrother, Jeremiah Taylor, and his daughters, Jeremoni, Jolivia, and Jared Thomas, under her wing.
She attended Galveston Community College, became a certified nurse’s assistant, and began her career at St Mary’s Hospital. She has worked for over 20 years as a private duty nurse, demonstrating her gentle touch and caring nature to patients in hospice care. Clara moved on to work for the Safety Council, serving the local petrochemical companies as a certification testing monitor, where she met and befriended members of the local community and eventually retired.
Though she loved volunteering in her community with the El Katif Court #115, Clara’s favorite role was that of a grandparent. She treasured her time with her grandkids and loved being in their “CiCi,” never failing to celebrate a birthday, holiday, or accomplishment. A few weeks ago, days after her physician transitioned her to hospice care, she took a flight to Atlanta, GA, to spend time with her grandson, Addison Taylor, who is attending Morehouse College.
We couldn’t have asked for a better mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend. We will miss Clara daily, but her memory will live on in all those who loved her.
Clara was preceded in death by her brother, Max Dean Brewer, mother Aline Caldwell Brewer, father Kenneth Yarbrough, and Aunts, Earline Miles and Lucille Caldwell.
She leaves behind her children David Lee Taylor Jr. (Elizabeth Taylor), Albert Lee Taylor (Eboni Taylor), and Felicia Ann Taylor; her siblings Kathleen Brewer, Vertis Caldwell, Belton K. Woodson, Elroy Yarbrough, Paul Yarbrough, and Paula Jackson; her first cousins Carrie Lathan and Patricia James; grandchildren Addison Luke Taylor, Abigail Leah Taylor, and Lily Kareleigh Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
