Calvin Joseph Datrice Sr. Obituary

Calvin Joseph Datrice Sr. peacefully entered into eternal rest on July 13, 2026, at the age of 89. He was born on September 15, 1936, in Eunice, Louisiana, to the late Samuel Datrice and Antonia Ceasar Datrice.

Growing up during a time when family came before everything else, Calvin made the selfless decision to leave school at a young age so he could help provide for his family. His willingness to sacrifice for those he loved became a defining characteristic throughout his life. He believed in hard work, responsibility, and doing whatever was necessary to care for those around him.

Calvin was a skilled shoemaker by trade and later dedicated many years of service to the Galveston Todd Shipyard before retiring. Known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature, he earned the respect of his coworkers through his commitment and perseverance.

Outside of work, Calvin had a deep love for automobiles and enjoyed spending countless hours working on cars. He also loved Zydeco music and the art of dance. Whether listening to his favorite songs or dancing with family and friends, Calvin embraced life's simple joys and brought warmth and laughter wherever he went. Those who knew him will remember his skilled hands, his determination, his joyful spirit, and the satisfaction he found in fixing just about anything with an engine.

Calvin was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Samuel Datrice and Antonia Ceasar Datrice; his children, Theresa Datrice and Mark Romero; his brothers, Leroy Datrice, Lee Joseph Datrice, Wilbert Datrice, Paul Datrice, and Gerald Datrice; his sisters, Alphonsia Orebeau and Winnie Orebeau; and his dear lifelong friends, Adolphis Archie, Donald Mickens, and Kenneth Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories his loving children: Michele Datrice, Marissa Datrice, Gina Romero, Lynette (Elliott) Beal, Louisette Fields, Antoinette Datrice, and Calvin Joseph Datrice Jr.; his devoted sister, Mary King; his former wife and the mother of four of his children, Evelyn Rhone; mother first three daughters, Frances (Benji) Rodrigues; along with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and many friends who were blessed to know and love him.

Although Calvin's journey on earth has come to an end, the values he lived by—hard work, sacrifice, resilience, and love for family—will continue to inspire those he leaves behind. His legacy lives on through the generations that follow him, and he will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
