On June 3, 1947, in Port Barre, Louisiana, the 2nd child, a beautiful, smiling baby girl blessed the eyes of Verdie Lou Savoie and Daniel Parker. They name this gift from God… Betty Jean Parker. She grew up and at an early age she accepted Christ at Greater Barbour’s Chapel Baptist Church where she was a longtime member. She served as a member of the Mass Choir, Usher Board, and The Eastern Stars, remaining faithful until her health started to decline. She later joined New Life Church of Texas under the leadership of Reverend Andrew W. Berry, II.
Betty Jean attended school in Texas City, Texas. She started high school at Booker T. Washington and later graduated from Texas City High School. She later obtained her cosmetology license from John’s Beauty College and maintained a career as a beautician for over 50 years. Betty Jean also worked for Texas City ISD’s transportation department as a bus driver for many years, then transitioned to work for Texas Department of Corrections as a Correctional Officer before retiring.
Betty Jean was united in marriage to Wesley Guillory who preceded her in death and Johnny Lee Morris who also preceded her in death.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel Parker and Verdie Lou Savoie and Abraham and Annie Mae Parker. She was also preceded in death by her sister Gloria Parker Armstrong, her brother Reginald Bob, and her son Laaron Leeron Morris.
She leaves to cherish her Legacy her son, Kevin Booshay Guillory and daughters, Angla MaGee (Keith), Latecia Morris, and Janet Morris. Grandchildren, Shauraile, D’Shawn, Apreia, Raven, Raymond, Isaac, and Riley. Great Grandson, Adrian Journet, Jr. Sisters, Loubertha Corbin, Joycelyn Lynch, and Valarie Bob. Brother, Ronald Bob. God Sister, Johnae Cotton. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends. She served as a Pillar of the Texas City community where many knew her as “Mama Betty.” She provided for the community in so many ways and treated no one as a stranger. She dropped and picked kids up from school and sports practices, she never turned a hungry belly away, and she provided shelter to many that needed it. She will truly be missed by all.
