Bernnia (West) Walker Obituary
The Life Journey of Bernnia West
Bernnia West was born on March 25, 1946, in Bedias, Texas, a small town rooted in family, tradition, and southern values. She later grew up in La Marque, Texas, where she attended Lincoln High Schooland built lifelong connections.
At an early age, Bernnia gave her life to Christ and united with Mount Paran Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was steady, simple, and sincere. She believed in treating people right, keeping family close, and staying true to who she was. Her quiet strength and gentle spirit touched everyone she encountered.
Bernnia enjoyed the simple joys of life — spending time with family and friends, sharing laughs, and playing dominoes. One of her favorite places to be was the hair salon, where she always looked forward to good conversation and good company. She especially loved her stylist and friend, Shenda Wilson, who kept her looking and feeling her best.
She was blessed with four children: Tralina Bledsoe, Wayne West, Phyllis West, and Phillip West. Her pride for them was unwavering, and as her family grew, so did her heart. Bernnia was the proud grandmother of 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, each one bringing her joy, smiles, and stories she loved to share. She came from a large and loving family. She was one of eight siblings and was preceded in death by: El Verne West, Troy Vernon West, Temple West, Sybil West, James West, Ola West, and her half-sibling Lamera.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Lois West, her half-sister Patricia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who held a special place in her heart.
On November 18, 2025, Bernnia peacefully transitioned at Mainland Medical Center in Texas City, Texas, surrounded by love and covered by grace. Though she is no longer with us in the physical, her spirit, humor, and the love she shared will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched.
Bernnia’s journey was not loud or flashy — it was real, steady, and full of love. Her legacy will continue through every life she blessed, every laugh she shared, and every memory she leaves behind.
